watchOS 4 Adds A Keypad To The Phone App

Answering phone calls on the Apple Watch feels super futuristic. Practical? That’s a different subject. Nevertheless, the phone app on the Apple Watch was great for calling contacts and people who recently called you, but it was worthless if you wanted to call a new number. Instead, you had to use Siri to dial the number you wanted to call. In watchOS 4, Apple has now added a keypad to the phone app that allows users to type the phone number and initiate a call.

Using this, you can now call any phone number you want. Even better, you can access the keypad while on a phone call on your Watch. If you want to dial an extension, reach a certain department, or let someone in a lockout building, you can now do that directly from your Apple Watch.

watchOS 4 brings along a number of other improvements too, such as new watch faces, an Apple News app, a new list view for the home screen, a redesigned dock, and more. It will be available as a free update to Apple Watch owners this fall.

What do you think of the phone app now featuring a keypad? Will you use it more often? Have there been times before where you wish you could access the keypad on an Apple Watch during a phone call before? What’s your favorite feature in watchOS 4?
