If you use the stock Notes app on your iPhone, iPad or even Mac then you would have noticed that by default your notes are arranged in the list based on the date they were last edited on. For example, if a certain note was created last year but it is the most recent note you edited, then this note will appear on top of the list regardless of the fact that other notes appearing below it were created later. This is true for both iOS and macOS versions of Notes application.
If you want to change this behavior of the stock Notes app and would rather have the notes list arrange notes based on the date they were created or even by title then you can do so by making a small change in the app’s settings section. Follow the steps below to change the way Notes are arranged in the list view.
On the iPhone or iPad Notes app
Step 1: On your iOS device launch the Settings app.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on the ‘Notes’ option.
Step 3: Once you are on the Notes preferences page tap on ‘Sort Notes By’ option.
Step 4: From the next page select ‘Date Created’ if you want the newest notes to appear on top or select ‘Title’ if you want them arranged alphabetically.
On the Mac Notes app
Step 1: On your Mac launch the Notes application.
Step 2: Now from the menu bar click on Notes > Preferences… option.
Step 3: Now click on the dropdown menu next to ‘Sort notes by:’ and select ‘Date Created’ if you want the newest notes to appear on top or select ‘Title’ if you want them arranged alphabetically.
