If you lock your Notes in the Apple Notes app, then you would know that they are usually protected with the iPhone’s passcode. Which means whenever you try to access a locked note, you either have to perform a Face ID or Touch ID scan or enter your iPhone’s passcode.
However, if you want to enhance the security of your locked Apple Notes and want to use a custom password for them, then this guide is for you.
In this tutorial, you will also learn how you can disable Face ID unlocks for your notes and only unlock notes with a custom password.
Set a Custom Password for Locked Apps
- Launch the Settings app and scroll down. Tap on the Apps option.
- Find and tap on Notes.
- Here, tap on the Passwords option.
- By default Use Device Passcode option would be selected. Here, tap on the Use Custom Password option.
- After a Face ID scan, enter your desired password. You can also type a hint for your password in case you forget it.
- After setting a custom password, you also have the option to disable Face ID for notes. Just disable the toggle for Use Face ID to turn it off.
After you are done, you can exit the Settings app. Now head over to the Notes app, and you will notice that you can now only unlock your notes with the password you just set.
This password will apply to all of your current and future locked notes.
That’s it, this is how you can set a custom password for the Notes app and disable the use of Face ID.
