If you’ve recently updated your iPhone to iOS 18.2, you may have noticed something different in the stock Mail app. Yes, we are talking about the Mail Category filters, that appear at the top of the inbox.
These filters organize your emails into categories like Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions. While this feature can be helpful for some users, others might find it annoying.
In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to disable category filters in the Mail app, both temporarily and permanently, so you can go back to a simple, unified inbox view.
Hide Mail Category Filters Temporarily
- On your iPhone launch the Mail app.
- At the top of your inbox, you’ll see the category filters. Simply swipe right on the filter buttons.
- A new option called All Mail will appear. Tap on it to see all your emails in a single, unified view.
Permanently Disable Category Filters
If you prefer a permanent solution to get rid of the category filters, follow these steps:
- Open the Mail app and look for the three-dot button in the top-right corner of the screen. Tap on it.
- From the menu that appears, select List View.
As soon as you switch to the List View, the category filters will disappear. Your inbox will now display all emails in one place, just like before the update.
You will need to perform these steps for all of your inboxes. When you turn off these filters once, they will not come back until you switch back to the category view.
