Apple Seeds iOS 16 Beta 4 For Developers, Here’s What’s Changed

After making us wait for three weeks since the release of beta 3, Apple has finally seeded iOS 16 developer beta 4 and iPadOS 16 developer beta 4. Both updates are now available for download over-the-air on devices that are running the beta.

Along with iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 beta 4, Apple has also seeded macOS Ventura Beta 4, watchOS 9 beta 4 and tvOS 16 beta 4. These operating systems can also be downloaded over-the-air on their compatible devices.

The build number for iOS 16 developer beta 4’s release is 20A5328h.

Changes in iOS 16 beta 4

In beta 4 Apple has finally made Live Activities API for lock screen widgets available to developers. Now developers will be able to create and test Live Activity widgets that will dynamically update based on the information received from their app.

During the WWDC 2022 presentation Apple demonstrated this feature by showing us an Uber widget that displays the live location of an incoming ride right on the notification. Other examples include a Starbucks widget that shows order progress right on the lock screen.

In iOS 16 Beta 4 Apple has also reduced the time limit for unsending iMessages. Now users will be able to unsend an iMessage 2 minutes after sending it. This is lower than 15 minutes time limit for unsending messages in previous betas.

Apple has also introduced a new limit on how many times a user can edit a message. Now users can edit a message five different times and Messages app will log the edits and display the changes made to the message to both sender and receiver.

In Apple CarPlay iOS 16 Beta 4 introduces new wallpapers. These are the same wallpapers that were added for iPhone in previous iOS 16 beta releases.
