Apple has recently released iOS 18.1 Beta 5 update to developers. The beta 5’s release comes as we draw closer to the final release of iOS 18.1 for the public. The build number for this release is 24B5055e.
With the beta 5 release, Apple has brought many changes to the operating system.
One of the most noticeable and welcomed changes in iOS 18.1 is the addition of a dedicated Wi-Fi button for the redesigned Control Center. Now users can add a Wi-Fi on/off button to the Control Center and quickly toggle it on and off.
Previously users were required to tap on the connectivity control widget and then access the Wi-Fi button. Users can add this widget by entering the Control Center editing mode or through Settings -> Control Center. Apple has also added a VPN toggle button for the new Control Center in iOS 18.1 beta 5.
For iPhone 16 users, Apple has added a new option for the new Camera Control button. Now users can take advantage of this button to switch to the front camera in addition to switching between rear cameras.
With iOS 18.1 beta 5, Apple has added RCS support for five more carriers including C Spire (US), TracFone (US), Proximus (Belgium), Telenet (Belgium), and BASE (Belgium).
iPhone Mirroring finally allows users to drag and drop files between Mac and iPhone. The feature was showcased by Apple but was missing at launch.
A new Writing Tools button has been added in the toolbar, that will allow users to access the Writing Tools feature without highlighting the text first.
Other changes in iOS 18.1 beta 5 include tweaks to the Sign-In Security interface of the Apple Account section in the Settings app, a new Apple Watch app icon, a new dark mode icon for Apple Intelligence, and a new Apple Intelligence in Message popup in the Messages app.
