When will Apple launch iPhone 16

We have crossed the halfway point of the iPhone 15 lineup’s lifecycle so the question that will arise in everybody’s mind is when does the iPhone 16 come out?

The launch of the next generation of iPhones is the biggest even in the tech world. It is also exciting for all iPhone users as they get a new device and can upgrade to the latest and greatest iPhone of their time.

When will Apple launch iPhone 16?

In 2024 Apple is going to stay true to its traditions and the company is going to launch iPhone 16 lineup in September.

The expected launch date of the iPhone 16 and the exact date of the iPhone 16 event is currently unknown. However, the historical data shows us that there is usually a 10-day gap between the announcement of the iPhone and its availability in the market.

Looking at the previous years we also know that Apple likes to announce the iPhone on a Tuesday and launch it 10 days later on a Friday, and this usually happens in the middle of September.

If we apply that logic to this year’s launch, then we can expect Apple to announce iPhone 16 on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, and release it on Friday, September 20, 2024

Apple could also delay the launch. If that happens then Apple could announce the iPhone 16 on Tuesday, 17 September 2024, and release it on Friday, 27 September 2024.

How many models of iPhone 16 will Apple launch?

Just like last year there will be four models of iPhone 16 including iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Sadly, for the fans of a mini iPhone model, Apple is not expected to launch an iPhone 16 mini. The last mini model of the iPhone was the iPhone 13 mini. Since that device, Apple has not released any new iPhone mini model, and the iPhone 16 mini is also going to remain a dream for fans of a smaller iPhone.

Features of iPhone 16

So what do we know about the iPhone 16? Is there any reliable leak or information that is worth talking about given we are still around 5 months away from the official launch? Let’s investigate.

Larger displays on iPhone 16 Pro models

According to a rumor, some models of iPhone 16 will feature a larger display when compared to the current generation. Specifically, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are both expected to get a bump in screen size with iPhone 16 Pro featuring a 6.27-inch display compared to the iPhone 15 Pro’s 6.1-inch.

iPhone 16 Pro Max is also said to get a screen size bump and is allegedly rumored to feature a screen size of 6.85 inches compared to the 6.5-inch screen of iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The rumor claiming iPhone 16 Pro models will have a larger display has been reported by multiple sources including a report from the website MacRumors, and separate claims from reliable analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young.

Chip and speed

The iPhone 16 lineup is expected to feature a faster chip. As iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with an A17 Pro chip, it is safe to assume that iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with an A18 Pro.

When it comes to iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, the situation is a bit different. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus feature an A16 Bionic chip. By that logic iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could feature the A17 Bionic chip, however, it is also likely that Apple could decide to call the chip in non-Pro models A18 instead of A17 just to align the names for chips found in the whole lineup.

Action button in all models

iPhone 16 Action Button

Apple’s iPhone 15 lineup introduced the Action button however it was limited to iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max only while the standard iPhone 15 models still feature the silent switch.

Things could change this year as Apple is expected to make the Action button standard across all models of iPhone 16. This means you can expect to see the Action button in iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus as well.

Will the Action button in iPhone 16 offer any improvements or new abilities compared with the Action button found in the iPhone 15 lineup? Only time will tell. However, we do hope Apple will add new ways to interact with the button and allow users to perform different actions when they single-press or double-press the button. Currently, action is only performed when the user presses and holds the button.

A new ‘Capture’ button to be part of iPhone 16

In addition to the Action button the iPhone 16 is expected to feature a new button dubbed the ‘Capture’ button. The capture button of the iPhone 16 is said to be located on the right side of the phone, below where the lock/wake button is located. This information was revealed by alleged CAD renders of iPhone 16.

According to rumors the Capture button will be more than just a simple button as it will respond to both touch and pressure. Users will be able to swipe on the button to perform zoom-in and zoom-out actions while taking pictures or recording videos.

Unlike the Action button which was only part of Pro models when the iPhone 15 launched, the Capture button is said to be part of the whole iPhone 16 lineup.

RAM in iPhone 16

iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to feature 8GB of RAM while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to feature 6GB of RAM.

We come to this conclusion by looking at the current models. With iPhone 15 Pro RAM was bumped up from 6GB to 8GB so the new models are not expected to receive a RAM bump so soon.

Price of iPhone 16

The prices of iPhone 16 models are expected to remain the same as the current generation. This means you can expect the following prices.

  • iPhone 16: $799
  • iPhone 16 Plus: $899
  • iPhone 16 Pro: $999
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: $1199
