iOS 16.1 Beta 1 Seeded To Developers Following iOS 16 Release

Two days after we saw the public release of iOS 16.0, Apple has today seeded iOS 16.1 update to developers. If you are a registered Apple Developer, then you can head over to the software update section to download this release.

iOS 16.1 should download over-the-air on devices who have iOS 16 beta profile installed. If you have iOS 16 beta profile, then simply head over to Settings -> General -> Software Update and install the update. The build number for this release is 20B5045d.

iOS 16.1 update is expected to bring iOS 16 features to the users that were announced during the WWDC event but were missing from iOS 16.0. This includes Live Activities feature, Live Activities API for developers, iCloud Shared Photo Library and newly revealed Clean Energy Charging feature.

In fact iOS 16.1 has already added a toggle for Clean Energy Charging feature under iPhone Battery section. This feature is designed to reduce iPhone’s carbon footprint by selectively charging when low carbon emission electricity is available. Under iOS 16.1 iPhone learns your charging routine and recharges the battery before you need to use it while also trying to use electricity with low carbon emission.

With iOS 16.1 Apple has finally added battery percentage support to iPhone models it was missing from in iOS 16.0. This includes the following models.

  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone XR

Another change that has been discovered in iOS 16.1 beta 1 is the ability to delete Wallet app. This is most probably done due to antitrust concerns over Apple Pay.

iOS 16.1 is expected to launch for public in October most likely with the release of iPadOS 16.1.

Update: iOS 16.1 beta is now available to public beta testers.
